What an awesome weekend! I think the best part of the weekend was not having much that we had to do on our to-do list. Friday night Tony and I both tucked ourselves in early -- I was asleep before eight o'clock that night. I cannot tell how long it had been since that happened. But, it felt so good that I was in bed early last night, too. And, tonight I'm also going to go that route. I'll use the excuse that I'm trying to de-stress as much as possible for our next IVF cycle, which is quickly approaching, rather than admit I'm just a grown woman who loves getting a good night's sleep!
Saturday I was able to attend Tony's cousin Kelly's bridal shower. It was lovely, and she will make a beautiful bride. It's always nice to catch up with family and see how everyone is doing. And, those get-togethers are always accompanied by delicious food. This shower was no different! Tony's mom and aunties did a wonderful job putting it all together, it was wonderful!
Today Tony and I lounged around, went to church, and then lounged around some more. My mom, Mike, Tony and I celebrated a little this evening -- I found out I got a 100% on my final exam in the class that I was taking at UWM. So, we had steaks on the grill with broccoli and a really yummy garlic, portabella mushroom, and red onion combination. Did I say it was yummy?!
This evening I'm trying to muster up the motivation to study for my last, I repeat LAST, Advanced Anatomy and Physiology lab exam of the year. I am SO excited for this to be over! Don't get me wrong I love the class and the material that we learn about, but I am ready for a break. Each lab exam has about 35-40 diagrams chock full of terms that we are to know and be able to label. I freak myself out before each one. Seems to be working so far! So, after my lecture exam on Thursday evening, this gal will be "only" a teacher for a little while. A welcome change to end the school year.
And there's more "new" for this week! I will not have ANY doctor appointments this week (at least not that I'm aware of now). This will be the first week since February 20, when I was injured restraining a child in a fight, that I will not have a doctor appointment or physical therapy during the normal school day. Although some of you may be thinking "oh, that wouldn't be so bad...leaving work and coming back after each appointment..." let me tell you, it's been rough. Not only do I feel like I've done the students in my classes a disservice by not being available as much as I'd like, I also have had quite the time arranging for the time off. The teaching staff I work with is AMAZING at being willing to help out and cover classes. But, unfortunately, not everyone working in a school building is as accommodating. So, I can say with confidence, I am glad that part is over. For now. Because, lucky lil me will be going back in two weeks' time for a check-up. For now I'm going to relish the fact that I will be more present in my classroom and appointment-free for the time being.
On Friday I visited my orthopedic doctor. The visit went well, he did not see any tears in my rotator cuff or other muscles, and prescribed a cortisone injection for my shoulder. I thought I'd be coming back for that...and suddenly he was giving me his chair and doing the injection himself. I hardly had time to worry or get nervous. Didn't hurt so badly going in (they use a numbing spray), but MAN did it hurt that night and yesterday. It's finally to the point where I don't feel like tender meat...but doesn't feel well enough that I think the cortisone has fully kicked in yet. I did ask him about getting cortisone when we are about to start IVF, and he didn't foresee any issues. I was able to do a little bit of quick searching while he was setting up the shot and found several comforting pieces of literature that indicate it should pose no threat. My question to him was "would you give this to a pregnant woman?" He confidently replied with "I would, and I have." That was all I needed. Should be nice to finish out the year with a little less pain in my shoulder, and hopefully be on the mend to just being back to normal!
I almost forgot! I take my last birth control pill on Wednesday. From there we wait for a cycle start and then start the injectable meds. I will keep you updated more often, I promise! :)
With that, I bid you goodnight. I hope you were able to enjoy the weather with people you love at your side.
